Knitting a Beanie: Learn to Knit in the Round and Decrease Stitches
In this 3-week class students will learn how to knit in the round on circular needles, the magic loop method for small circumference knitting, and how to decrease stitches. Students must already know how to cast-on, knit, and purl.

Description
Class Experience
One of the joys of knitting is finishing a project and knowing you created it. During our time together we will complete a beanie. While knitting the beanie, students will learn how to join stitches to knit in the round, how to decrease stitches and when and why to use different styles of decreasing, the magic loop method of knitting small circumferences, and how to make and (optional) pompom to attach to the beanie. I have been knitting for 17 years and have created countless wearable works of art. I have taught my children to knit and have taught at fiber festivals and at living history events.
Students will need to work on their beanies between classes.
Knitting needles: Size US7 16" circular needle and US7 24" circular needles. Worsted Weight Yarn (200 yards) of your choice: Wool and wool blends are great choices for beanies. Stitch Markers Sewing scissors Tapestry needle Paper and pencil A pattern will be provided
45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 2 - 4 hours per week outside of class.
Parents may step in to assist if needed but need to remain off camera. Items with sharp edges and points will be used: knitting needles, scissors, and tapestry needle.
