Knit a Waldorf Cuddle Doll Summer Camp
Class experience
In the traditional Waldorf school, knitting is introduced in grade one! In this online camp young, beginning knitters watch a step-by-step demonstration of the knitting or sewing skill of the day; then are guided through the technique, with ample opportunities to ask questions and receive individual assistance. No prior experience is necessary, however hand and finger dexterity are helpful. Everyone learns at their own pace, and students who like to sew or make crafts are likely to pick up...
Learners develop knitting and sewing skills, plus an understanding of the knitting process. They experience the confidence and satisfaction that arise from crafting a toy from start to finish, with yarn and knitting needles, and gain a very special doll as a new friend.
I'm an avid knitter, and I love teaching young people to knit! I have taught an after-school knitting club for teens, and I've taught 6-year-olds to knit, as an integral part of the Waldorf curriculum.
FOR STITCH & TECHNIQUE CLASSES: - 1 pair knitting needles, preferably a size from 9 to 11 US (6.0 to 8.0 mm) - 1 yarn needle with a very large eye (click the following link, for an example) https://www.amazon.com/Needle-Tapestry-Needles-Weaving-Darning/dp/B07KPTSPX2/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?keywords=yarn+needle&qid=1647453383&sr=8-2-spons&psc=1&smid=A1WP0HWSL0D9RJ&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEyQlhQV0VaSElCMDVaJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwMjI2ODI4MTFRUTJURjgwOTJTUiZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwMzc5NTg2MVlDWldHMUxJSEpDViZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX2F0ZiZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU= - Lengths of bulky weight wool yarn, in several different colors (Wool blends or other fibers are also suitable.) - Stuffing: polyester fiberfill or carded, unspun wool *YARN NOTES* - 'Bulky weight' refers to the thickness of a strand of yarn. - It's easiest to work with thick yarn, and size 9 - 11 US (6.0 - 8.0 mm) knitting needles. - It's easiest to see knitting in light or bright colors; darker colors are more challenging to work with. - 100% pure wool is easy to work with, due to its elasticity. - Please message the teacher if you have any questions about materials.
Grownups, knitting needles, yarn needles and scissors (to cut yarn) are pokey--please remind youngsters that they are tools; not toys, and supervise their use by younger children.
We'll use an original pattern for our knitted dolls, created by the teacher.
