Knit a Scarf Summer Camp!
Class experience
Each meeting begins with a learner check-in, followed by a step-by-step demonstration of a new stitch or knitting technique. Learners are then guided through the new technique, with ample opportunities to ask questions and receive individual assistance. Knitting is repetitive; practice time in class is also conversation time! Daily topics: Day 1, Casting on, Knit Stitch, Garter Stitch (all knit stitches) Day 2, Purl Stitch, Stockinette Stitch (knit rows alternating with purl rows) Day 3,...
Learners will develop knitting skills, an understanding of the knitting process, and will experience the confidence and satisfaction that arise from creating a beautiful, functional project.
I'm an avid knitter, and I love teaching young people to knit! I have taught an after-school knitting club for teens, and I've taught 6-year-olds to knit, as an integral part of the Waldorf curriculum.
Learners will need: - 1 pair knitting needles; suggested size is 8 US (5.0 mm) - Yarn; suggested yardage and weight is 350 yards of worsted weight wool blend yarn (320 m), in any solid color - Copy this link to download our knitting pattern, for free: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/beginners-stitch-sampler-scarf?set=&_rfoff=1 *Yarn notes* - 'Worsted weight' refers to the thickness of a strand of yarn. A thicker yarn can be used for the scarf, however extra yardage will be required. Please check the ball band label for the needle size that matches the yarn weight. - 100% pure wool is easy to work with, due to its elasticity, and will create a luxurious, warm scarf. - Thick yarn is easier to work with than thin. - Wool blends or other fibers are suitable for the pattern, provided that the yarn weight matches the needle size. - Please message the teacher if you have any questions about materials.
Grownups, please remind younger children that knitting needles and scissors are tools; not toys. With their sharp points, they must be handled and stored safely.
