Students will take a trip into the Middle Ages to see who had power, where and how people lived and what people did during their free time. Each week students will cover several topics by use of short video clips, handout and class discussion. The students will take part in some common games of the time. History is the study of past events, commonly with a focus on their causes and intended and unintended effects. Students need to understand their historical roots and those of others and how past events have shaped their world. In developing these insights, students must know what life was like in the past and how things change and develop over time. Reconstructing and interpreting historical events provides a needed perspective in addressing the past, the present and the future. Students will be able to: *Identify and describe how communities change over time. *Compare traditions found in communities over time, including those from diverse backgrounds. * Identify the cause and effect of an event in a community. * Describe interactions that occur between individuals and groups *Compare life in the past to life today in communities.
There will be some handouts or a craft for the students to complete. These activities are optional, but students will have a better ownership of the class if they participate and are able to contribute to the class discussion.
Students will need to be able to have basic craft supplies like paper or markers. The teacher will provide handout, craft directions or optional food recipes before each class.
The students will be assessed by participation and informal assessment.
45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
The Middle Ages were not known for their human rights, so there will be references to fighting and violence. This time period was also centered around religion. There will be the mention of this in the study.
