This fun Fall and Halloween image is made with acrylic paint on an 8X10 canvas or canvas board. The image shown here does not do the project justice. The black cat is sitting on a halloween pumpkin while other Jack-O-Lanterns flank either side. Some experience with acrylic paint is helpful. The student will learn how to make a textured 2D image to be proud enough to hang on your wall or give as a present to someone you love. The student will learn, through identifying simple shapes, how to...
Students will learn how to draw exactly what they see, using some basic techniques developed under author Betty Edwards, "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain." This skill will take the student far beyond this project. The student will also learn how to mix paint, understand the value scale in both gray and white as well as in color. Texturing and shadowing skills will also be taught.
Although this is a one time class, the student will be able to finish this project at home outside of this teacher's supervision. This will be accomplished as it is anticipated that enough of the painting will be completed and the skill set strong enough for the student to complete on their own.
1. 8X10 canvas or canvas board. One set of basic, tube acrylic paint. (I discourage folk art paints)The colors should include, red, blue, yellow, orange, white, black.( Optional colors purple, violet, sap green, leaf green, light blue, royal blue, brown and turquoise.) Brushes-any inexpensive acrylic or watercolor beginners set will be fine. This should include one large and one small "round" and a small and large"flat" brush. Heavy jar for water to clean brushes as we go (don't use small cups, they tip over too easily)paper towels, small plastic pallet with at least 5 wells or two paper plates. Scratch paper, pencil, eraser and colored markers.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
All students are highly encouraged during the class time provided. With pride we all share what we are doing or have completed on the screen for all to see. All classes taught by this teacher are applauded and all students in attendance will be encouraged to also recognize the accomplishment of their fellow artists.
55 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
