Class Experience

In this one-time class, students will be encouraged to introduce themselves and their cats (or dogs if they do not have a cat and are still interested in learning about the feline species) to myself and other learners. Students will learn about the history and evolution of cats through time. We will explore my self made "Kitty Classroom" which students will be able to engage in conversation and learn fun facts about cats. We will coral read a text out loud about a specific breed of cat and discuss with one another the cat breeds unique characteristics. Students will end the class by engaging in a step by step drawing tutorial of a cat with my assistance and guidance.

*Reading Level*
Students will be encouraged to read pages of our cat book out loud. It is preferred that all students have first-grade reading skills, however it is NOT required that students have any reading skills at all yet. Non readers will still be able to enjoy the cat book being read to them.

*CLASS TIME*
All class times are approximate. Class length varies based on student ability and the number of enrolled learners. Classes are designed so that they will not run longer than the time allotted.

*FEEDBACK*
I would love to hear your feedback on this class. If you enjoyed the class, please give me a review and help me grow my presence here on Outschool!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello everyone, My name is Amanda Alperson and I am so beyond excited to be introducing myself to you students and parents. I am a third year Special education teacher working for the Los Angeles unified school district. I graduated from California State University Northridge in 2017 with a Bachelors degree in Child development. I have been the classroom teacher of a Kindergarten Autism Class and a 3-5 grade Specific learning disability class. I have also been teaching part-time with VIPKid for the past year, and learned about the effectiveness of using total physical response and realia or props in teaching students online English. While I do have experience teaching common core curriculum to students ages 5-11, my true passion lies in teaching students about social-emotional development, understanding feelings and regulating emotions in a positive way. I love to teach my students about the difference between growth vs. fixed mindset when working to achieve the goals we want in life. I also love teaching my students about graphic design and creating google slide presentations. I lead my teaching with an empowered learner mentality and foster a collaborative environment between students at any given opportunity. I cannot wait to share my passions in teaching with students around the globe.
