Class Experience

What will be taught?
Students will learn basic food safety principles to ensure they understand proper hygiene, safe food handling, and how to prevent foodborne illnesses.

What topics will you cover?
Handwashing & Germ Prevention – The importance of clean hands and surfaces
Food Temperature Safety – What needs to stay cold and what needs to be cooked hot
Cross-Contamination – Keeping raw meat, dairy, and fresh food separate
Expiration Dates & Food Storage – When to keep and when to toss
Knife & Cooking Safety – Basics of safe kitchen habits
How is your class structured?
This class meets twice for 45 minutes each session and follows this structure:

Session 1:
✅ What is food safety, and why is it important?
✅ Handwashing challenge – The best way to get rid of germs
✅ Safe food storage – Fridge or pantry? Game
✅ Keeping the kitchen clean – Fun sorting activity
✅ Wrap-up: Kitchen Safety Hero Pledge

Session 2:
✅ Safe cooking habits – What’s hot, what’s cold?
✅ Avoiding cross-contamination – Sorting food challenge
✅ Expiration dates & leftovers – Toss or keep?
✅ Knife safety – Learning basic kitchen rules
✅ Final Quiz: Are you a Kitchen Safety Hero?

How will you teach?
I use an interactive, hands-on approach with fun games, slides, real-life scenarios, and problem-solving activities to help kids learn in an engaging way.

Kids will participate in:
✔️ Hands-on hygiene and food sorting games
✔️ Fun quizzes and challenges
✔️ Discussion and storytelling
✔️ Visual slides and real-life kitchen examples

Parental Guidance
This class covers basic kitchen safety and does not involve live cooking. Parents should supervise if children practice lessons outside of class.
