Class Experience

This is an extension class for "Play Based Homeschooling - Blossom and Root (Ages 3-4)" and "Hands on Play Based Homeschooling - Blossom and Root (Ages 4-5)" to offer a fourth day to our homeschooling program. *Families not enrolled in our main section are welcome to enroll, no extra curriculum will be needed to participate in this course. This would be a great opportunity to take class with Miss Courtney again for those returning to in person learning*

Each week, Miss Courtney will provide an extra day of activities led through our curriculum, Blossom and Root. This course will provide extensions for four weeks. It is recommended to make one recipe a week. (Since this is a FLEX class, you can complete at your own timeline.) Each week we will work together to make a special recipe from the "Kitchen Classroom" section. Miss Courtney will select recipes from Pinterest, family recipes, and seasonal recipes. Please see below for the recipes we will make for this section.

Week 1: Easy English Muffin Pizzas
Week 2: Holiday Muddy Buddies
Week 3: Crockpot Chicken Noodle Soup
Week 4: Carrot Cake Oatmeal Muffins

Each week, Miss Courtney will share a recording of the recipes. Our meeting will take place in Miss Courtney's home kitchen and follow the same structure of our class. We will sing hello and follow along on the white board so the children know what we will do in each meeting (This is similar to all courses I teach - using the white board to show what will happen in each meeting.) Each cooking class will follow the same structure. We will:

1.) Go over ingredients needed. I will point out all ingredients and measurements.
2.) Create the recipe.
3.) Make predictions, talk about culture or family traditions.*
4.) Show off and try our finished product.
5.) Sing goodbye

*Some classes that have extra weight time will include a short story read by Miss Courtney.

Each learner is encouraged to follow along with the recipe that Miss Courtney demonstrates. The skills used are as follows:
-Measuring, pouring, stirring
-Cracking or separating eggs
-"Read" the recipe. (your learner can point out numbers, letters, and familiar pictures)
-Chop soft foods with child appropriate knife
-Wash produce
-Help set up and clean up before and after meal times
-Set temperature or time on the stove
-Help wash and dry dishes
-Help grocery shop, meal plan, or grow food

Your learner is experiencing so many skills while cooking! No experience in cooking is necessary, this is meant to be an introductory course in cooking/baking.

During this FLEX class, to encourage participation and sharing, Miss Courtney will share a poll each week that learners are expected to fill out. This will be short and ask questions like "What was your favorite part of making this recipe?" or "Did you like the taste of this recipe?" or "How did you help this week?"

We will also share photos of our finished products.
