By the end of this course, students will be able to analyze and articulate the complex interplay of historical, political, and social factors that led to the American Revolution. They will develop a comprehensive understanding of the contrasting leadership styles of King George III and George Washington, as well as the pivotal roles played by key figures such as Paul Revere, John Adams, and Benjamin Franklin. Furthermore, students will gain insight into the challenges faced by both the British and Continental Armies and the impact of critical turning points such as the Hessian soldiers' abandonment of their posts. Ultimately, students will emerge with a nuanced understanding of how these multifaceted elements converged to shape the birth of the United States of America.
I hold a BA in History with minors in Women's Studies and Humanities as well as an MA in History. My area of specialty is women's history (My studies also include the history of Women of Color and Indigenous Women), and American (United States) history from the 1560s to 1960s. I recently completed continuing education courses covering the American Civil War. Topics of study included the lives of enslaved people and the many different ways the Civil War affected their lives, people of color and women and their role in the Civil War, and the enforcement of freedom of the enslaved.
The class content is designed to be age-appropriate, with careful consideration given to the sensitivity of the topics covered. However, it's important to note that our discussions will encompass historical battles and the realities of war, including aspects that some students may find intense or emotionally challenging. As a result, I encourage parents or guardians to provide guidance and support as needed, ensuring that students have an opportunity to process and discuss the material in a manner that aligns with their individual needs and comfort levels. I am committed to fostering a respectful and inclusive learning environment, and I welcome open communication with families to ensure that students can engage with the course content in a manner that is supportive and enriching for their educational journey.
