In this one time class, students are inspired by the story Kindness Rocks by Sonica Ellis. They are to reflect upon what it means to be kind. Students will create kindness rocks and make a plan for sharing the rocks with others.

Class Experience

Students are inspired to create kindness rocks by hearing the book Kindness Rocks

Class structure is flexible. It may change if the students need it to change. For example, if students need movement I will pause what we are doing and add movement.

Students are invited to share what they created. They will also flex their critical thinking muscles and devise a plan to share kindness rocks with others.

Learning Goals

1. Students will demonstrate knowledge by defining kindness and providing examples of kindness.
2. Students will apply previous knowledge and knowledge acquired in the book by painting rocks.
3. Students will apply new knowledge and critical thinking skills by devising a plan for sharing kindness rocks.

Other Details

Supply List
Rocks - free (ask a neighbor or find some near your home) 
Paint - $5-10 (acrylic paint)

If you are unable to collect rocks and paint, alternatives include: 
Paper and markers or crayons to draw rocks on
Make paint out of crushed flowers, food coloring, or food scraps
