Class Experience

Herzlich Willkommen! I am looking forward to teaching your child basic German. In this introductory class we will learn basic German vocabulary words. As we learn these words we will incorporate tactile learning by also drawing the newly learned vocabulary word. For example, words they use daily, such as momma, papa, sister, brother, dog, cat, and many more. We will learn the word & draw a picture of that word. We will also learn numbers, and sing an alphabet song! I find that reading to a child allows them to immerse themselves in another world imaginatively, in this class we will do it in another language too! Working as a little team we will help each other remember new words. I love interactive teaching, so slides, songs, photos & pictures in a book may be used to help my children learn too. Most of us do better with multiple senses being used. I love group discussion- little minds have big hearts and a lot to say, and I don’t mind listening. No experience is required as this is an introductory class and designed to form a desire to learn more.

Learning Goals

My goal for your child will be to spark an interest in another language- in this case German. I want them to be able to learn the alphabet and numbers 1-20. My favorite way to teach is through artwork, so if I teach a child a new language vocabulary word and they can now draw it, we have tapped into multiple facets of their brain and creativity. If they draw a cat in class and can show daddy this is a “katze” I think that’s awesome. To sing their little alphabet song to their parents when at dinner, or show mommy how they can count in German. Ultimately my goal would be to create a desire for them to want to learn more. These young years are still so formative and impressionable so I believe it’s the prime time to introduce a new language.
