On Tuesday, we will learn about informational writing. I will then read a non-fiction text. I will give students sentence starters to help support their informational writing. Students will then share their writing with the group. On Wednesday, we will learn about how to writing. I will give a model for students. Then, we will brainstorm different things students could write a how to story about. After students chose a topic they will draw four pictures representing the four steps of their how to. Hello, I'm Jillian! I am a certified teacher with a degree in Early Childhood- Elementary Education. I have experience in Montessori, International Baccalaureate(IB) and traditional public education classrooms with students from 3 years old- 5th grade. Having experience across such a wide age range has given me a clear idea of what is developmentally appropriate and how to help advance students skills to the next level. All of these experiences impact my teaching style that heavily revolves around meeting each child at their own level and connecting students to the real world. I think the love of learning is infectious and is one of the most important things to teach in any class.
I specialize in working with children between the ages of 2 and 7 in the Preoperational Stage. I am excited to teach classes in phonics, writing, math and social-emotional skills to make education meaningful for every learner. I believe in connecting with students to engage them and having high expectations.
Some fun facts about myself are that I taught for a semester in Myanmar (formerly known as Burma), used to teach windsurfing at a summer camp and love to read. My home is filled with my fiance, an 18 month old and a soon to be 5 year old! You can also find me on Facebook or Membervault at Learning with Jillian.
