Counting, Patterns, Shapes, Money, Telling Time, Measurement! Join me to get started on these foundational kindergarten math skills! This is a full, standards-based kindergarten Math Curriculum. Its format is ongoing, so students can join anytime. Teacher Laura has structured the class so that students will cover many math concepts in each class, in a fun, fast-paced and interactive environment. Teacher Laura believes that the best learning occurs when students are having fun and there is a caring relationship built between teacher and students. We will use lots of interaction, fun videos, props, visuals, and movement to enhance learning. Please bring a small white board and marker to class, as we will use that to draw and write as we are learning. Each week, the content will be different, but the format will be the same. This helps young students know what to expect and builds good routines. Here is the format: 5 minutes: Calendar Time (days, months, year) 5 minutes: Counting practice with movement (forward, backward, by 10s, 5s, 2s) 10 minutes: New math concept introduction, based on standards below 5 minutes: Review previous concepts Teacher Laura knows that kindergarten age students cannot sit still for long, so classes are intentionally short- only 25 minutes. We will pack a LOT of learning into 25 minutes! There is no assigned homework. Math Topics covered in this course, with tentative dates: Summer 2022 Schedule May: Shapes and Patterns June: Measurement July: Time Aug: Money *Note, we focus on USA coins and values. But any student is welcome! (Basic addition, place value, and counting strategies are taught in each class.) Please note that Teacher Laura teaches a similar class, formatted for preschool learners and 1st grade learners. Please choose the best level for your child! Classes are kept intentionally small (maximum 7) so they do fill up. Reserve your spot today! Questions? Special concerns? Email Laura at laura.risdall@gmail.com
