US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - Kindergarten
This class includes practice of different reading concepts. Each week the student will have two classes focused on a specific reading skill and the foundations for that skill. We will sing songs that reinforce letter sounds. Reading skills will be practiced with demonstration and active participation. The student will listen to and read stories written by the teacher or the student. This will help them become aware of word use in the real world. I stay aware of the students' needs and interests and adjust class content accordingly for the maximum learning benefit for each student. Students should be entering kindergarten or finishing kindergarten. This ongoing course will run for 6 weeks and can be repeated for more practice. Week of September 3 we will practice identifying letter sounds. Week of Sept 10 we will practice listening for sounds at the beginning, in the middle, and at the end of a word. Week of Sept 17 we will practice word families. Week of Sept 24 we will practice reading sight words. Week of October 1 The student will start to develop (with help) and read the stories they create. This process repeats as the student builds their skills. We will have fun learning to read.
