US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - 2
Beginner Level
Is your child showing an interest in reading? Do they know their letters and sounds? Then I am here to help them on their journey to becoming a reader. I am a certified primary school teacher and I have lots of experience teaching children how to read. We will begin with learning to read sight words. Sight words are the words that appear most frequently in our reading and writing. They are often words that are difficult to sound out and therefore simply need to be memorized. By easily recognizing these words, young readers are much more likely to approach a text with confidence. In this class, we will focus on 5 new pre-primer words each week. Week #1 Words: a, I, and, can, go Week #2 Words: the, in, is, it, go Week #3 Words: you, for, look, see, me Week #4 Words: come, like, to, said, here Each group of lessons will include the following: Day #1: Fun songs to learn the weekly words Day #2: Sight word printing with a whiteboard and markers Day #3: A new and exciting sight word game each week! Day #4: A Hands on Sight Word activity (eg. building words with playdough, shaving cream, chalk etc.) Day #5: Sight word chanting activity This class is based on my most popular one-time class and is for beginning readers who know their letters and are ready to learn some words. The format is flexible, so learners with busy schedules can watch the videos and participate in the lessons on their own time. Flex classes are also perfect for families that live outside the teacher’s time zone, or students that may feel too shy to have face-to-face meetings with a teacher and other students. Learners will be encouraged to take photos of their work throughout the week or to post videos of themselves reading the sight words to our classroom. Learners may leave positive comments on their classmates work and creations:)
