Class Experience

This course is a multi-day course that will teach essential reading skills by a Kindergarten Teacher! Each course will be CAPPED at 3 students so each child could have more interaction throughout the course.

During our four week course, we will practice 20 sight words (20 words in total from the Pre-Primer Dolch List), 4 word families, and read a variety of books that center around a different theme each week. This is great class to prepare for Kindergarten and to review for 1st Grade! =)

Weekly Session Example:

Monday:
- read a book about our weekly theme
- introduce and practice our 5 new sight words using whole body movement and using fun phrases to help us remember each word
- practice our 5 new sight words by writing our new words three times each

Tuesday:
- read a book about our weekly theme
- introduce our new word family by writing and drawing a picture of each new word
- review our new word family by matching each word to its coordinating picture

Friday:
- read a book about our weekly theme
- review our 5 sight words and word family words
- practice reading our new sight words and word family words in a number of sentences to increase fluency

**Students will be muted and unmuted throughout instruction to enhance our learning environment.

**Students should know how to write/form their letters for our writing activity

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi! My name is Nicole Marder. =) I grew up with a passion for teaching. My mom was a Kindergarten teacher for thirty three years and I followed in her footsteps and became a Kindergarten teacher as well! I subbed for grades K-12 for three years while in college and taught for four years before I had my son. I took an extended maternity leave, but I have continued my educational journey and tutored students from Kindergarten through Sixth Grade.

While subbing, teaching in a public school, and tutoring; I found whole body movement, singing, using silly phrases, and drawing were essential to each student's success. There is no identical learner and it is so important to meet each student's learning needs to optimize learning!!

I love having fun and being silly while teaching! Students need to have a class setting where it is fun and where they don't have to worry about getting an answer wrong! I tell my son on a daily basis that mistakes are vital to learning!

It would be a privilege to teach your child and I look forward to meeting your child in my class soon! =)
