There will be hands on, engaging materials with lots of practice for skills learned during the whole group section of this class. Each class will include reading, comprehension, phonics, grammar/language arts, and writing...
This class is taught in English.
Students will work and improve on kindergarten skills in phonics, sight words, reading and comprehension, grammar/language arts, and writing skills.
I have been teaching in a brick and mortar school for 10 years and have been working with children for 20 years. I have taught all grades kindergarten through sixth grade. I have a minor in kindergarten-primary education, so kindergarten through 3rd grade are my speciality. I have spent most of my time with the younger grade levels working with learners of all types of needs. I can easily differentiate to reach my students on their needs.
Learners may need to come to work prepared with writing activities. Each week the items needed will be posted in the class supplies. I will aslo post our flash cards on the class supplies so learners can continue to practice on their own. Feel free to watch the video as well to review concepts. Please check Sunday evenings EST for materials posted. There will be weekly assignments posted in the classroom to help learners review what was taught at their available times.
Each week materials will be posted in the classroom on Sunday afternoon-evening EST. Please print all materials before class to get the best experince possible. During our welcome time learners will be able to grab any last minute materials but it would be best if materials are available prior to class because this class will have to stick to the time schedule listed. A general list of materials are as follows: pencils erasers coloring materials-markers, crayons, colored pencils scissors glue
For learners that come back week to week I will send an update on how learners are doing once a month. For learners that are only able to attend a couple times please contact me prior to class if you want a review on how your learner does in class. I am happy to provide one if contacted prior to class.
2 hours per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Please be close by for learners, off screen, so if technical issues arise during class you can help. Depending on your learner's needs, please be close by for activities with scissors, glue, etc. Tech info: During class we may be using outschool approved websites such as kahoot, nearpod, or other websites. Students will need to know how to split screens or have a second device ready to go to get the most out of the online game activities. I will also have the option for learners to be able to use the chat features and screen share with the class if that is more comfortable for learners. National Geographic for Kids will be a website that we use for our research project. This website is designed for children by national geographic and offers lots of fun activities that kids can use to help them learn.
I will be using common core curriculum to develop engaging, grade level materials, dolch sight word lists, and various books. Each week I will post the book we will be reading on Sunday afternoons EST if you would like for your learner to have their own copy of the book to follow along with, but this is a personal preference. Learners are not required to have the books.
