In this 1:1 course, your child will learn to read/grow their skills by reading with a professional. We start with books containing phonetic, single-syllabic words to build their abilities and end when your child is ready for chapter books.
Class experience
US Grade Kindergarten
The first time your student enrolls in this course, we will spend a little bit of time getting to know each other and feeling comfortable. Then we will go through books at a couple of levels of difficulty to determine your child's current reading level so we can start from there. We will read together with whatever time remains. After that, we will read together for 20 minutes every time we meet. We will read from books of increasing difficulty so that your child's skills continually grow...
Students will improve their reading level, comprehension, vocabulary, and confidence.
I have worked as a reading aide and kindergarten instructional assistant for 3 years. As such, I was in charge of reading with students, assessing their reading level, and helping them move steadily through the curriculum. I have helped over 100 children learn to read.
Homework Offered
For the best results, students should attend class regularly and also read as much as possible outside of class.1 - 2 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
Students will be asked to read their current book with a less than 10% error rate to move on to the next book.Grades Offered
I haven't provided a comprehensive list of books as I am constantly in the process of acquiring new and better books to make sure your child has enough reading material to build their skills at every level and is also entertained and learns to enjoy reading. Therefore, I will make sure that I vet any new books that I add to my collection by reading them first to make sure that they don't include graphic or gory illustrations and that the content doesn't promote bullying or discrimination.
