This on-going course provides 3-5 year old learners with opportunity to practice important academic and social skills. 

Each class will begin with a welcome song and songs to practice days of the week and months of the year. Stories and finger plays will be integrated regularly. A general skill will be provided for each class but the content will not be taught in isolation.  All content areas and social skills will be incorporated into each class as a particular skill is highlighted. 

Here are examples of the skills introduced in practiced across content areas:

Reading Readiness: letter identification, letter sound recognition, listening to stories, singing songs, repeating rhymes.
Writing Readiness: multisensory approach to forming letters, building with blocks, squeezing dough, exploring various manipulatives, engaging in finger plays and rhymes.
Math Readiness: practicing the days of the week and months of the year, creating basic patterns, identifying shapes and colors, counting, singing number songs.
Science/STEM: science process skills, using senses, exploring natural materials, identifying animals and plants, engineering with blocks and manipulatives.
Social and Emotional Skills: sharing, taking turns, speaking clearly, engaging in dialogue and problem solving with others. 

Learning Targets and materials will be provided to the learner in the classroom one week in advance. 

The course will be teacher led with students engaged in practicing skills. I will teach through modeling, songs, short videos, using props and total physical response activities. My teaching style is energetic, engaging and positive. Learners will interact with me and each other frequently as they implement skills.

Week of September 24
Learning Target: I can draw a picture and tell a story about my picture.

I can create with clay or dough.

Learning Target: I can use shapes to create a design.

Learning Target: I can tell what animals need to live.
