In this 10-week multi-day class, we will review all of the letters in the alphabet and learn all the sounds that go with the alphabet. This class is ideal for children who have been to school before but need review on phonics, in particular word families, before entering kindergarten. In this class we will identify letters, recall the letter sounds, and talk about what sound it makes when the letters go together. We will use play-doh and watercolors to make learning fun. Adding play-doh not...
Learning Goal 1: Students can identify and make the sounds of all letters of the alphabet. Learning Goal 2: Students can identify the word families when seeing them. Learning Goal 3: Students can create words from the word families.
I am a Winthrop University Graduate as of May 2022 with a degree in Human Development with a concentration in Early Childhood. As. Preschool teacher I see students struggle with these phonics skills and want to help other children who may be struggling as well!
This is the "You do" portion of my teaching. I will ask the students to practice making word family words with play-doh or using the watercolor technique at least 2 times a week for practice. This not only helps them learn through repetition but makes them more confident when it is time for class. There is no assignment to be turned in for this.
- Play-doh - Water colors
Assessment will be completed at week 5. If student is exceeding learning goals, Ms. Erika will recommend moving to kindergarten readiness Level 3.
30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Please work with your student one-two times a week and ask them to tell you their letter sounds! This will help them learn and will help them gain confidence in class when saying these sounds. Please note: Play-Doh may contain Wheat.
