Class Experience

In this advanced class we will go over skills children need to know when entering Kindergarten. This is an advanced class. Students will need to know their letters and letter formation. We will work on more advanced skills such as phonics and reading/writing words. Please message me to if your unsure if this is the proper class for you.

The class will go as follows:
- Welcome and chat time: Welcome everyone and allow everyone to share something exciting they did. Young children love to talk and chat, which helps with language and socialization.
- Language and Reading: We will go over random words and sounds. We will find things or think of words that rhyme. We will practice writing words with capitals and lower case. We will primarily write in lower case.
- Math Skill: We will work on larger numbers such as 20-100 and adding/subtraction.
- Fine Motor Skills: writing (holding a pencil properly), using scissors and scissor safety, copy basic shapes, shoe tying.
- Educational songs
- Wrap up and Goodbye

Topic: words with short vowel a (bat, cat, hat, mat, rat, bad, sad, mad, lad)
Sight Word: the
Numbers: 20-29

Topic: words with short vowel e (egg, set, Meg - and we will discuss why the M is upper case, leg, peg)
Sight Word: a
Numbers:30-39

Topic: words with short vowel i (sit, hit, mitten, fit, pit, lit, zip, lip, rip, did)
Sight Word: is
Numbers:40-49

Topic: words with short vowel o
Sight Word: I (we will discuss why it's upper case)
Numbers:50-59

We will continue on with these skills throughout the summer. I will start over with this course in September.

I have limited space for this class, so it is extremely important that students can give me their full attention for one hour. We will not be writing/working the entire class time. We will take a brain break half way through the class to help the class refocus.

If your child can recognize and write their ALL of their letters, recognize and count to 20, and he/she knows basic shapes, you're child is ready for this class. In this class we use Kindergarten curriculum. It's for those students who have taken Pre-K classes or have been in a Pre-K program, but need a challenge before beginning Kindergarten.

If students aren't ready for an advanced level, I have Kindergarten Readiness which is for Beginners and Intermediate.

Hello. I have been teaching for over 20 years. I have experience teaching children from pre-k through 10th grade. I have a Bachelors Degree in Child Development and Family Studies, and a minor in Education. I have been married for 18 years. My husband and I have 3 children ages 15, 13, and 11. I currently homeschool our children, and have since my oldest started Kindergarten. I teach various classes and subjects at our local homeschool tutorial.

Since I homeschool our children, I have experience in all subject areas and learning styles. It's so important for teachers to teach subjects to all learning styles, not just one. In my classes, I use various tools and techniques to accomplish this task.

I teach various classes such as English, Phonics, Reading Comprehension, Math, Science, Social Studies, cooking, crafts, sing and learn, and much more. I look forward to having your child in class.

Just a little personal information: On June 1st, 2022 I had a kidney transplant and my amazing husband was my donor. During the summer of 2022, I have my schedule posted, but please bare with me as I navigate through many appointments. I feel better than I have felt in years. So I'm so excited to get back in the classroom. I just want my lovely students and their families to know my situation and I'm thrilled to share my story when appropriate. If you have any questions, please let me know. Thanks for thinking of me.
