This five-week, ongoing course is designed for learners entering Kindergarten this year. Students who need a refresher or who have not been in a regular preschool program would benefit from this class. Each class will have different activities for each skill covered. Therefore, students can attend one or as many classes as needed with no problem. Kindergarten readiness skills covered in this course include:
Week 1:
Uppercase vs Lowercase Letter Recognition, Shape Sorting, Sight words "a, see"
Week 2:
Beginning Letter Sounds, Counting Practice, Sight words "I, we"
Week 3:
Letter Sound Sorting, More or Less Math, Parts of a Story, Sight words "and, to"
Week 4:
Beginning Sounds and Ending Sounds, I Can Make 5, Sight Words "the, you"
Week 5:
Where's the Sound, I Can Make 10, Sight Words "is, it"

At this age, social and speaking skills are very important. Students will have multiple opportunities to participate throughout class if they feel comfortable doing so. Opportunities include greeting each other, taking turns, answering questions, and having storytime discussions. This class will follow a consistent routine. Each class will begin with a greeting and hello song. The class will continue with phonics talk, math talk, sight word activity, or reading comprehension. We will end each class with a goodbye song and one last time to talk about what's on their mind.
