Description

Class Experience

Students will learn in this kindergarten prep course the basic skills that are required for kindergarten on their first day. Writing their full name, colors, counting 1-20, the alphabet, how to properly control writing utensils, and scissors. Also, how to manage themselves independently ( hand washing, using the bathroom, and independently dressing themselves). How to properly use a book.
I've taught Head Start for several years 10.
Learners will be completing projects individually. The only assignment is the practice writing their full name, and reviewing their colors, shapes, and numbers. I recommend having a lined notebook. Parents write their child's full name with a yellow marker, to be traced, and the same with numbers 1-20, and the alphabet.
1 lined composition/notebook 1 pair of scissors, pencil and paper, and a yellow or light colored marker * Google slides, You Tube will be used, within screen-share.* No account required.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
At the end of the course the learner will be informally visually assessed.
35 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Parental Guidance is required with the use of scissors. Cutting with scissors requires the skill of hand separation, which is the ability to use the thumb, index, and middle fingers separately from the pinkie and ring fingers. This can be challenging for a youngster with small hands. Although many 3- or 4-year-olds have the skills needed to snip and cut, scissor skills are not fully developed until around age 6. There are Parental controls & settings for YouTube Kids profiles & supervised accounts. Videos used in this class are age-appropriate and pertain to the subject taught. Videos are used minimally, and only provide a visual on hand positioning when writing, and cutting.
You Tube video, short less than 10 mins., showing proper hand positioning of using scissors. Google slides used in shared screen. No account required. All other materials are provided within the curriculum- flash card, posters.
