Class Experience

Patterns are one of the most basic but important math concepts your child will learn.
This course will cover a basic introduction to patterns over 3 total of classes. Let's have some fun while we learn how to find and make patterns together!
In class 1, students will work on being able to identify a repeating pattern, and predicting what comes next in a pattern sequence.
In class 2, we will expand our knowledge of patterns from what we have learned in Class 1. Students will create their own patterns, and identify the "core" of various patterns (ex: red, red, blue is an AAB, AAB pattern at it's core, blue, red, blue, red is an ABAB pattern core.
Class 3 will be an art-based class where students will complete an art activity using what they have learned about patterns.

It would be beneficial for students to have basic knowledge of shapes, colours, and letters for this course. Some things to expect in this class: I will provide various printables for practicing creating our patterns, as well as share a short video clip and provide various PowerPoint slides. We will also be getting creative, and using some body movements to make some patterns, as well as creating some pattern art! Please have some pattern materials ready to create some of your own patterns in class (ex: stickers, coloured blocks, counters, coloured markers, etc.

Learning Goals

In this class, students will learn how to identify a repeating pattern, predict what comes next in a pattern, as well as create their own patterns. We will also learn how to translate patterns.

Hi! I am so excited to be a part of the Outschool community. I have a Bachelor's of Elementary Education from the University of Alberta. I have 7 years experience teaching in a classroom setting, from Kindergarten to Grade 6. I also have over 6 months experience teaching English online. I am a stay at home mom to two kiddos ages 2 and 5. They keep me busy and add so much excitement and joy to our home.
I left the brick and mortar school setting to spend more time with my family, although I do miss so many things about the classroom. I am looking forward to this opportunity to get back to what I love best-teaching and sharing my love of learning.
Currently, I am offering classes in early literacy, numeracy, and art skills, although I am open to seeing where this journey takes me!
I believe young children learn best in an environment where they feel safe and valued. It is important that they are interested and engaged and have a personal investment in what they are learning. I would be honoured if you would give me the opportunity to teach your child/children. I am most excited about getting to know and engaging with your kids, and hopefully helping to instill a lifelong love of learning.
