In this ongoing course, students will learn important Kindergarten literacy, math and science skills with a certified elementary teacher. This class will meet one time per week and you can join or leave at any time. Each week we will focus on a different academic area, however, each class will likely follow the same outline as defined below. 1. Greeting and sharing - we will greet each other and answer a question posed or share something from home based on the day's theme. 2. Song - I love incorporating music into all of my classes. We will listen to a song related to the lesson's focus. 3. Teaching and Learning - This is the heart of the lesson and will incorporate a variety of activities including google slides, hands on work, story problems, worksheet(s), and games. 4. Brain Break - We'll take a few minutes to shake out our sillies. 5. Game - We'll play some sort of game which might include bingo or search and find. 6. LOGISTICAL RECOMMENDATION - please help your child learn how to "unmute" themselves on Zoom. I have the ability to "mute" learners, but I cannot unmute. There are times throughout class that I have all students muted and then want to hear from learners individually. It's helpful if all students can unmute themselves with ease. MATERIALS: On the Sunday before class, printable materials for that week will be sent to each learner via the classroom homepage. Please have crayons, pencil/paper (or whiteboard) available for all classes. NOTE: In week 2, your child will need 5 "counters" such as bear, cubes, buttons, etc. In week 4, your child will need a small bag of M&M's for our math lesson. In week 8 your child will need 10 "counters." In week 10 your child will need a small bag of skittles for our math lesson. TIME NOTE: I will open the classroom approximately 5 minutes prior to class, but will wait until the start time of class to let students into the classroom. Our class will run almost exactly 30 minutes from start to finish, but there may be days we end a minute or two early or go a minute or two beyond. My classroom is a safe place full of engaging and fun learning! I am energetic, patient and kind. I try to encourage lots of student output in different ways to include all types of learners (song, movement, sharing, reading). There is no required experience or knowledge learners need. Come ready to learn and have fun.
Learning Goals
Students will improve their literacy, math and science skills throughout this course.
