Description

Class Experience

Questioning and problem-solving skills, thinking and understanding with clarity, thinking independently, being persistent and applying past knowledge to new situations.
Please review parent guidance.
Each week your learner will be given extended handouts for extra understanding and practice. We may start these in class if there is extra time, and then your learner can complete at a later time. These sheets are optional and will not be graded.
Basic school supplies: writing utensil (pencils, crayons, markers, etc) Paper / notebook glue stick ruler or non-measuring tools (e.g. counters, yarn, bocks) letters and numbers (e.g. magnetic, flash cards) things to count with (e.g. cutout shapes, crayons, pennies)
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Written report can be given if requested.
If requested, please keep work together in a folder to go along with report.
1 hour 30 minutes per week in class, and no time outside of class.
External resources maybe used during this class with the teacher working side by side to help your learner process the information is implemented. My YouTube acct. that I will be using is set up as an account for users 13 years and younger. At no point will a video be sent to your learner to view on their own. YouTube is only used possibly for read-aloud, music & movement, or if we are investigating and a snippet of a video can be used to allow the child better understanding. I like to stick with videos no longer than 3-5min long or less, and I tend to ask questions before, during, and after the video has been viewed. You do not need to create an account for YouTube or the other resources (Nearpod, Jamboard, or slides). I will control the slides and work side by side while your learner builds on their understanding.

During the week of June 13 -17 when we get ready to embark on another summer and should keep in mind of staying safe and ways to do so. Weather in the home, at the park/or event or even around strangers', children should understand the importance of being safe. During this week we will discuss stranger danger, bike/scooter safety, home & car safety and my body-my boundaries. We discuss bullying in our Hero's vs Villains theme and discuss it again during this week. Your learner will review how to call for help and stand up for themselves. We will read "Let's talk about Body boundaries, Consent, & Respect" By Jayneen Sanders, illustrated by Sarah Jennings. This read aloud is perfect for their age and simple understanding.

As a mother of 2, I now that we as parents hate discussing what can be such a dark subject but it doesn't have to be. Unfortunately even as a preschooler it is important that your learner is equip with knowing how to stand up for themselves and to help you keep them safe.
