Class Experience

Use code BLAMEKINDER8 when you join before September 24th!

In this circle-time style Kindergarten class, students will be immersed in the French language through pictures, stories, drawing, modeling dough, and lots of repetition. This class is for beginners, but it is taught entirely in French using pictures, props, repetition, and other comprehension strategies.

Note: I may use English at times to check name pronunciation or put students at ease, as some get anxious when they can’t understand. I may also use it to introduce an activity for the first time.

SERIES STRUCTURE

This class series is structured into Units, with each unit having 3 parts. Students must complete all 3 parts of one Unit before moving on to the next. For example, Unit 1 consists of colors, numbers, and letters, all of which need to be taken before students can start Unit 2. Within the unit, students may take classes in any order.

CLASS STRUCTURE

Each week, we will start with greetings. Students will practicing saying hello and answering the question “How are you?” in French. I will guide students in telling us their name and what letter it starts with each week by speaking to them one by one and having them repeat.

After greetings, students will be introduced to the alphabet as a whole. Each week will look a little different, which you may read in the “Class Breakdown.” Students will practice by using lots of repetition in different ways to help them fully absorb the vocabulary.

After alphabet, students will listen to me read a story in French. We will read the story once and students will listen, then the second time I will ask students to repeat certain parts. I may also ask them to find a certain letter on the page.

Finally, students will complete a letter scavenger hunt. For each student, I will choose a letter at random, and they will need to find something that starts with that letter to share with us (it can start with the letter in English or French). I will help each student share as well as having them repeat words.

Parental Guidance
Immersion classes can be difficult at the beginning when students don’t know the language at all. They may need your support when they don’t understand. Students may be muted at times (due to background noise, practicing raising hands/taking turns, or the type of activity) so they will need to know how to unmute or have a nearby adult to help. During our scavenger hunt, students will be given a random letter to find. They may need help finding the object or remembering to come back to class once they have them.

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
I have been learning French for 7 years now, from French 1 - French 5 as well as 2 years of immersion French classes. I am conversationally fluent and at a B2 level. I have tutored French immersion from May 2020 through August 2020 when the French immersion school near us closed for quarantine, and I've been teaching French through Outschool for 1 year.

I took the French CLEP test a few years ago and got maybe 5 points away from a perfect score while testing out of and getting credit for all the French classes at my local community college.

I also continue to take French lessons with native speakers, and I am working towards my Bachelors in French, which includes classes in advanced French immersion, French literature, and French education.

I also have my certification in TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language), the principles from which I apply to my French classes.
