Class Experience

In this class, students will review the basic foundations of reading that they have learned in kindergarten or first grade, including sight words, phonics, and comprehension strategies to improve their reading levels.
Sharon Frazier-Verpooten has been teaching for 28 years in grades K-12. She is a certified reading interventionist, elementary school teacher, and music teacher. She has conducted many workshops for other teachers and parents in California and in Texas in GATE, AVID, Social Emotional Learning, Computer Using Educators, Music, and Mathematics. She is always ready to open her toolbox of strategies that will help students learn and can individualize any curriculum to meet students’ needs from the struggling learner or gifted students. Her greatest passion in education is to develop curriculum that helps students to experience success and have fun learning.
Students are encouraged to practice their sight words and read books each day with a helper. During the class, students will have access to my account with RAZ Kids so that they can read books on their own at their level. I will be sharing Fry's Second 100 sight words so that your child can work ahead if they would like to. This is encouraged but not required.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Students will be informally assessed as they read with me in class.
1 hour 30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
I have an account with RAZ kids and Flocabulary, so we will be using those resources in class.
