Class Experience

Objective:
This ongoing course offers students the experience to read various texts and analyze them closely on a kindergarten level while applying a specific skill for each class. Students will explore vocabulary, story elements, reading strategies like: comprehension, asking/answering questions, comparing and contrast, making predictions, inferencing, reading fluency, and writing.

Class Structure:
I will begin class by introducing the learning target for each lesson. We will explore the meaning of these concepts and make connections to develop understanding. This will lead the class to reading a story or part of a story to analyze it closely. Students will practice applying the learning target of “asking/answering questions, comprehension, compare/contrast” for example. All lessons are common core aligned. Students will also practice writing skills during each lesson as well by writing short answer responses to questions related to the content. Students will be exposed to a rich vocabulary and critical thinking skills setting the foundation for reading fluency, accuracy, and understanding.

Teaching style:
This class will consist of meaningful discussions, engaging activities such as videos, books, interactive mini lessons, and writing activities. I am enthusiastic and full of positive energy. I enjoy having fun learning with my students and like to keep an upbeat, welcoming environment.

Students will have access to the texts we will read prior to class. Students are encouraged to listen to a read aloud of each story prior to class. Class documents will also be provided for each student to print out for classwork as well as homework for extra practice.

I would like to say thank you for taking the time out to read a little bit about me and for considering me as a part of your child’s learning journey! My passion for teaching continues to strengthen as each year passes! I take pride in building relationships with my students. Having a positive and welcoming environment is something that helps facilitate learning which ensures student engagement and success! I strive for my classroom environment to be warm and welcoming. It is important to me that my students are able to make meaningful connections and build confidence. My ultimate goal is to provide the best learning experience for my students that gets them excited and passionate about learning.

I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I am currently certified to teach grades Pre-K—5 and Special Education Grades K—12. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). I also hold a certification in School Counseling. I have taught (and still teach) in a public school setting going on 13 years. The first 4 years I taught 3rd grade, pre-k and kindergarten. Now, for the past 9 years and counting, I have been teaching Special Education in the Elementary setting. Teaching regular and special education has provided me with countless opportunities to work with a variety of students. I have the ability to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of students. I am also able to individualize lessons and provide direct, explicit instruction by providing modifications and accommodations when necessary.

I was introduced to online teaching when I began my experience of teaching English as a Second Language with VIPkid to students who were learning English. This experience had motivated me to branch out and continue teaching online. It had inspired me to expand my platform providing me with the opportunity of teaching classes online for 5 years. I love meeting new people and being able to help make a difference in a learner’s educational experience.

Thank you for reading, and I hope to work with your child in the future! I am looking forward to meeting many students and exploring new concepts with them.
