Beginner Level
In this ONGOING course, learners will complete 19 different interactive activities (each week), reviewing foundational reading and language skills at the Kindergarten level. ***This course will review many Kindergarten skills that learners will need before entering 1st grade and runs on a 5 week content cycle. After week 5, the lessons will start over and repeat, starting over from the 1st week of the 5 week cycle. The content, in each week's slides, does not build on the previous week, therefore learners may join or cancel at any time (****however, to receive the most benefit from the bootcamp, it would be most beneficial to join for the 5 week cycle, since the content changes over the 5 weeks****). Learners may also benefit from repeating the cycle, if parents are interested in additional practice. ⭐️ ⭐️ 🔠👩🏻🏫****Week 1: -Letter Match (Gg, Xx, Yy, Ww, Jj, Bb) -Rhyme Time (dive/five, bite/kite) -Syllable Count (ant, elephant) -Onset & Rime (m-ud, m-ap) -Segment the CVC Word (m-u-g) -Make New Words (pan, fan, pen, pad) -What's That Sound (initial letter sounds-q(u), a, h, m, l, f) -Blend CVC Words (t-a-g) -Make a CVCe Word (wave- long a, silent e) -Sight Words in Context (it) -Sound Find (leg, log- different middle sounds) -Printing Letters (Ff, Pp) -Nouns & Verbs (lime, wipe) -Plural Nouns (muffins) -Position Words ('to the left of') -Making Sentences (It's time to wake up!) -Capitalize It! If extra time is needed on any particular slide/activity, it may prevent the class from reviewing all 19 slides. I am always willing to stay in the classroom an extra 5 minutes, if necessary.
Learning Goals
Many of the standards learners will practice will be:
Demonstrating one-to-one letter-sound correspondence by producing the primary sound or most frequent sound for each consonant.
Applying grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words.
Reading common high-frequency words by sight.
Blending and segmenting individual sounds (phonemes) in spoken one-syllable words.
Blending and segmenting onsets and rimes of spoken words.
Associating the long and short sounds with common spellings (graphemes) for the five major vowels.
Identifying and naming all upper and lowercase letters of the alphabet.
Demonstrating understanding of spoken words, syllables, and sounds (phonemes).
Distinguishing between similarly spelled words by identifying the sounds of the letters that differ.
