Class Experience
The standards and topics that will be covered in this 9-week course are: Week 1 Intro to class How to use SeeSaw Review of ABC, numbers, etc. All about me Week 2 Know number names and the count sequence. Count to tell the number of objects. Promote Healthy Habits Identify and describe shapes (squares, circles, triangles, rectangles, hexagons, cubes, cones, cylinders, and spheres Earth's Systems Observe and describe the effects of sunlight on Earth's surface (e.g., heat from the sun causing evaporation of water or increased temperature of soil, rocks, sand, and water). Observe, record, and share findings of local weather patterns over a period of time (e.g., increase in daily temperature from morning to afternoon, typical rain and storm patterns from season to season). Week 3 Differentiate between goods and services. Describe roles of helpers and leaders, including school principal, school custodian, volunteers, police officers, and fire and rescue workers. Differentiate between land forms and bodies of water on maps and globes, ask and answer questions about key details in a text Week 4 Make predictions to determine main idea and anticipate an ending retell familiar stories, identify characters, settings, and major events in a story Week 5 Ask and answer questions about unknown words in a text. Recognize common types of texts name the author and illustrator of a story and define the role of each in telling the story Week 6 describe the relationship between illustrations compare and contrast the adventures and experiences of characters in familiar stories Identify and apply different qualities to movements. Example: Heavy/light, smooth/sharp, sustained/sudden. Move body parts in relation to other body parts and repeat/recall movements upon request. Week 7 Identify the front cover, back cover, and title page of a book. Week 8 Name the author and illustrator of a text and define the role of each in presenting the ideas or information in a text. Demonstrate understanding of spoken words, syllables, and sounds Print many uppercase and lowercase letters. Week 9 explore word relationships and nuances in word meanings. Identify healthy food choices. Explain why healthy behaviors such as brushing teeth and getting adequate sleep are important And MUCH MORE!
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
No live meetings, and an estimated 2 - 4 hours per week outside of class.
