Description

Class Experience

This class will cover basic skills to prepare students to start Kindergarten including literacy, math, cognitive, and fine motor skills.  This class will be teacher-led, but it will be highly interactive with lots of movement, discussion questions and hands-on work during each lesson.  Students should a have some knowledge of the alphabet, numbers and shapes as this class is mostly a review of basic skills learned in preschool and practice for Kindergarten.  Each class will have 4 components...

Students will gain 
Literacy skills: listening to stories and answering questions, alphabet knowledge, and phonological awareness
Math skills: counting, shapes, patterns, graphing, and measurement
Cognitive skills; following multi-step directions and classification
Fine motor skills: writing and cutting.

I have taught preschool for 10+ years and regularly meet with kindergarten teachers to discuss their expectations.

All work will be completed during class time, but additional practice pages will be available to those that want to continue work over the summer.

Paper, pencil, and child-friendly scissors, 20 multi-colored objects (at least 3 colors) Examples: erasers, fruit loops, skittles, m&ms, colored rocks, etc) to be used multiple times.

Learners will be assessed informally during the lesson through observations.  Parents will be given additional resources at the end of class for any areas where students need to continue to build confidence.

3 hours per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
