This 8 week class will be offered throughout the 20/21 school year and will build upon itself as the year progresses. While students who take more than 1 session may repeat and review concepts, techniques and art elements, each activity will be different. Activities will never repeat, allowing students lay a firm foundation for confidence and understanding while opening the door for creative collaboration and friendship to be created by repeat learners. Each class will begin with an introduction to an inspiration artwork followed by an opportunity to engage with Ms Stephanie and other class members by responding to questions created around a specific aspect of the artwork. Students will then work along side Ms. Stephanie to create uniquely individual art works. Students will be encouraged to show and share their art work at various point throughout the class and again at the end of class. Each week students will explore a different art making medium and technique using artwork and artists throughout history to build both large and fine motor skills, creative thinking skills, resilience, flexibility and confidence in this fun and engaging class. This session will focus on all things WINTER Week 1 students will work on drawing skills to create patterns Week 2 students will use found objects to make prints for weeks 3 Week 3 students will use our prints to create a winter wonderland Week 4 students will learn to create space in a polar bear habitat with watercolor paint and magic markers Week 6 students will use their growing scissor skills to learn about proportion Week 7 students will explore color under the Northern Lights Week 8 students will use collage and painting techniques in a Charlie Harper inspired artwork

Students will continue to build confidence in using art making tools.

Students will learn about artists and their artworks.
Most importantly, students will have fun while they create!

Parental Guidance
Art making can be messy, please ensure student work surfaces are well protected and students dress for mess. Also please be available and alert when we use scissors as this age group is still growing in confidence and understanding of proper scissor use and safety.

9x12 mixed media paper construction paper black paper scissors glue sticks white glue variety of tempera or acrylic paint (including white) watercolor paint crayons, washable markers chalk or chalk pastels

Stephanie is a k-12 certified art educator and arts in healthcare profession who has been teaching children and working with dementia care residents for over 20 years. Creating fun, engaging art experiences that are age appropriate and confidence building is her specialty, she'll use these skills to bring art to life for your kindergartner!
