US Grade Kindergarten - 1
👋 Welcome to this exciting and engaging Kindergarten circle time! Join me on a fun-filled journey as learners prepare for kindergarten through a variety of essential skills and interactive activities. Some important notes about this class: 🌟 Please note that learners who sign up for this class should already know all of their letters and sounds and recognize/count numbers up to 100, or at least with minimal assistance. ⭐️ I recommend having a small white board and marker for this class. While I will be sending out materials every week that we will do together in class, I also ask students to write their work and share it on their screen with me so I can see their understanding and progress. While paper and pencil work fine as well, a white board and marker are much more convenient and easier for me to quickly see their work! 🔇 Sometimes, I may mute students if there is background noise that may be distracting. I prefer not to, because I am constantly asking students to participate in sounding out words, answering questions, ect. So please make sure your learner knows how to use the mute/unmute button in case they are muted and I call on them. I can only mute students, not unmute! In this ongoing Kindergarten and First grade circle time, which takes place three times a week (Tuesday to Thursday), we will cover a range of subjects. Here is the daily schedule: ⏰ Schedule: 👋🏻 Greeting: We'll start each day with a quick, warm, and cheerful welcome to set the tone for our learning and have a moment to share. This can be showing the class a new fun toy, sharing a story of something they did, or even telling me how they are feeling today. If your learner chooses to share, please make sure that it is quick. If their is an object they would like to share, have it prepared before class. Sometimes, it takes away important learning time if students have to walk away from the screen to get something to share. Sharing is supposed to be quick, so we can dive right into learning after. Learners, of course, do not have to share if they do not want to! :) ⏱️ Calendar Time: During this segment, we'll explore the concepts of time. We'll talk about today's date, days of the week, and months of the year with songs and interactive activities. Reading, Phonics, and Math: Tuesdays: On these days, we'll focus on Phonics. Each Tuesday, we'll focus on a different vowel (a, e, i, o, or u), and we'll dive into learning how to blend CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words with the vowel of the day through interactive slides, worksheets, and hands-on activities. Additionally, we'll introduce a sight word of the week through songs, movement, writing, and games. Wednesday: Our focus will shift to math. We will start each math time with a counting to 100 song/movement break, and eventually move onto counting to 120. We will then learn different strategies to solve simple math sentences, such as drawing pictures to represent our work, using ten frames, the count-on strategy, and more. Thursdays: We will end the week with reading. Each Thursday, we will have a story that will have the sight word of the week, where we will read a story together and practice finding the sight word of the week, decoding CVC words, and focus on an early reading strategy. These strategies include: looking at the picture to figure out tricky words, rereading and making sure it makes sense, stretching the sounds out, and more. Each week will also have a different theme, and take some time to learn the theme of the week through activities. Here are the themes for the first four weeks: Week of Sept. 19: All About Fall 🍂🍁 (CVC a words, sight word "the", and solving simple addition number sentences up to 10) Week of Sept. 26: Colors🟣🌈 (CVC e words, sight word "is," and solving simple addition story problems up to 10) NO CLASSES THE WEEK OF OCT. 2 Week of Oct. 10: How to be a Good Citizen! 👍🏻 (CVC i words, sight word "and", and solving simple subtraction number sentences up to 10) Week of Oct. 17: Woodland Animals 🐿️🦌 (CVC o words, sight word "am," and solving simple subtraction story problems up to 10) In this Kindergarten and First grade circle time, I strive to create a supportive and interactive environment where learners can develop essential skills that will serve as a solid foundation for their journey into kindergarten and beyond. Let's embark on this wonderful learning journey together! Join me for an engaging and enriching Kindergarten circle time that will leave your young ones eager and excited for each new day of learning. I hope to see you soon! 🌟
