In this ongoing class students will practice foundational phonics skills. This class is designed to be fun, engaging, and very hands on. Students will learn the rules of reading, build words, and play games to practice their skills.

US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - 1
In this ongoing class students will learn a new short vowel sound each week! This is a great class for students who are beginning to learn to read. They should know letter names, sounds, and be working on reading short words like bat, met, him, etc. Students will work on one word family per week. This class works best if you continue to practice those skills throughout the week! This class is designed to be highly encouraging! I want each child who takes this class to not only learn phonics, but also gain confidence and develop a love of reading! Reading can often be intimidating, so I encourage students, I never demand. My hope is that each student enjoys coming to class and learning to read, which leads them to becoming lifelong learners who enjoy being challenged. My goal as your learner’s teacher is to inspire them to be lifelong learners. Learning is scary and requires a lot of vulnerability to take chances knowing you could make a mistake. I pride myself on helping students feel safe, confident, and secure in themselves. I’ve always seen tremendous growth in students when they are in an environment that allows for them to safely make mistakes and learn from them.
