Ready to Read Bossy/Silent E & CCVC Words! Phonics, Sight Words, Write & Do Math
Class experience
Kindergarten & 1st grade students who enroll in this class will review letters and practice phonics skills. (Advanced preschool students are welcomed too.) We'll practice the "sounds" each letter makes with our fun and engaging phonics song. CVC words and sentences will be reviewed every Monday, then silent E partners (or double vowel words like rain) will be learned. Every week, the vowels and their sounds will also be reviewed. We'll blend two consonants with the vowels using our blend...
Students will enjoy learning through songs and review material that will prepare them to read CCVC words. Each student will sharpen foundational skills such as letter recognition, phonics, and numbers. We will practice properly tracing words, sight words, and begin simple sentence writing. Each week, we will also incorporate a critical thinking skill such as the following: -the five senses -rhyming words -positional words such as "above, below, in front, behind" -more or less -big or small -long and short -up or down -in or out -hot or cold -matching skills - what's different/the same? -patterns -comprehension skills -following directions
I have been in education for over 20 years and have had the privilege of teaching little ones how to read and write. I'm thrilled to teach students how to read through phonics! When foundational phonics skills are learned, students learn to love reading! They'll enjoy reading sentences, word families, and short stories in this class.

With young students, a parent nearby can help in case a child needs assistance or help staying attentive. Also, please help your student with the mute and unmute functions in zoom. I do mute students if backgrounds become noisy, but I cannot unmute students in the classroom. Please note that Outschool policy states only enrolled students can be seen on camera.
