Description
Class Experience
This class is designed to help early readers build early reading skills by learning sight words. Consistent practice will make these words automatic, allowing them to read more fluently. This routine will give students regular opportunities to practice memorizing sight words. In this ongoing class, students will follow a basic routine that will maximize exposure to 10 sight words each week. Each class will be packed with fast-paced games that give opportunity for constant participation, and...
Each week students will focus on 10 sight words. Students will be able to read these words in isolation, and will have opportunity to read them in the context of simple sentences.
B.A. in Family and Child Development. I am a firm believer that play is the work of the child, so my goal is to make this class fun! 6 years experience working in early childhood education with students ages 3-6. I have taught this very thing to dozens of children throughout the years, and even to my own children who are homeschooled.
Every week. I will include an attachment of our words for that week. Because this is an ongoing class, this is not "homework" that needs to be turned in, but rather a resource for parents to use while working with their children at home.
1 hour per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
I will sometimes play a game with the students using a PowerPoint presentation. These games will involve much movement, so make sure the students have space to stand, jump, and even run in place. If not properly supervised, my biggest worry is that students will try to stand on a chair and try these movements. I will always make a disclaimer before the activity "You may stand if you'd like to, but make sure you stand on the floor and not on a chair."
