Class Experience
Are you ready to move on to the next level as a sewist? Maybe you've taken KidSew Beginner to Intermediate flex class and are ready to learn some advanced techniques! Perhaps you have attended one of my American Girl Sewing Circles and have thought about opening an Etsy shop to sell your creations. Or you might be interested in offering sewing side jobs, such as alterations, for some extra spending money! Whatever the reason, if you are interested in learning the inside scoop on professional sewing techniques, this flex class is for you. During this course you will learn: - How to finish inner seams for a professional look - Different types of pockets and zippers - The difference between a serger, coverstitch and regular sewing machine - Drafting, measuring and modifying patterns - Quilting skills - How to finish edges with trims, piping and bias tape Students must already know how to use their machines and have experience sewing. They should be familiar with fractions and the US standard measuring system. There will be 4 separate projects that the students will be assigned to make during the week that the tutorial is posted. These projects may take several hours to complete, especially the final two projects. The following tutorials will be featured: Week 1 - Quilted potholder (with bias tape) Week 2 - Raglan jersey shirt (knit) Week 3 - A pair of fleece house slippers to keep your feet warm and cozy! Week 4 - Knit circle skirt A complete supply list will be provided upon enrollment (note: for weeks 2 & 4 required yardage will vary depending on student's size). Each week, I will post a playlist with video tutorials that the students will watch in their own time. Students will then post a picture of their completed project during the week, and they are welcome to interact with one another by commenting on eachother's projects. Please plan on spending 1-2 hours on the videos, and an additional 1-3 hours per week finishing your project. At the end of this course, you will have the skills to construct your own quality garments and items, and even potentially resell future projects, knowing that they will hold up to customer expectations and frequent use. If you are interested in designing and making costumes and clothing, you may be interested in taking my live Design and Sew class, which can be taken as many times as needed. Since this is a flex class, there are no live meetings; however, I am available to answer your questions any time during the week. I will also be posting tips and ideas, suggestions and encouragement in the classroom throughout the course, and students are welcome to converse with one another using the classroom. This is the biggest difference between my course and any other sewing course you might find online! **By enrolling in this class, you are purchasing patterns and video tutorials that you can download and keep to use for as long as you like! Please refrain from sharing or redistributing these copyrighted materials with anyone outside of our classroom. Thank you!
