This one time yoga class will cover the life cycle of a butterfly. We will cover the different stages of a butterfly starting as larvae to being a caterpillar, to its hibernation stage in a cocoon to its development into a beautiful butterfly. Each stage of the butterfly life cycle will be represented by a specific yoga pose. The class structure will begin with a breathing exercise followed by our sun salutation and song warm up. The next part of class will be an introduction to the poses that correspond with the stages of developing into a butterfly and then we will put everything together in a flow. We will then follow that flow up with a song about butterflies as we dance around our space recreating the movements of a butterfly. The class will then end with a relaxation period where we close our eyes and allow our bodies to calm down as I guide them through the lessons we learned during class. My teaching style is allowing each child to explore the movements while being a guide to them as they find their creativity and voice within the class lesson. Each learner will get to interact with myself and their class by being involved in discussion on their favorite color butterfly, what butterflies look like, what butterflies and asking questions about the life cycle of a butterfly. There is no experience necessary for this class. The only thing a learner will need is creativity and imagination!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi! I'm Ms. Lay and I am a certified 200-hr yoga instructor. I have been practicing yoga for 17 years and teaching for 9 years. I own a kids yoga program called Kid Yoga Life and I have been teaching in schools throughout Houston for the past 9 years.
I am also a painter and love all things art!
I obtained my B.S in Health and Behavioral science concentrated in aging and wellness from the University of Houston- Downtown.I also have several certifications from NYU Meyers school of nursing in trauma and behavioral health fields.
My teaching philosophy lies in the belief that all kids have an innate ability to create and be their most authentic self. Through kids yoga I was able to create a safe place for kids where they can explore their imagination through mindfulness, journaling, breathing and yoga.
Through yoga we not only work on stretching and learning our bodies, but we also work on cognitive development, gross and fine motor skills as well as confidence. Each class brings a new opportunity for your little yogi to build strength, flexibility, gain better balance and mobility all while building great characteristics and attitudes. Fostering cooperation and compassion instead of opposition is a great gift to give children.
In my free time I am spending time with my family, working on paintings and doing yoga! I have two amazing daughters a 10 year old and a (almost) 5 year old. I also have a wild frenchie who is 2 years old.
