All students move at a different pace, but we will need to work at a pace that will allow us to get all the way through the class material. If your student works slower that is just fine and does not need to feel pressure to rush, but it is possible that your student will not finish in our time period. You can always encourage your learner to continue their work after class.Class Experience
Kids With Oil Pastels- Fall Art Series - Let's Draw an Monarch Butterfly Introduce your child to the artist's crayon-- oil pastel. Let's take the techniques they already use naturally with their crayons and learn an expressive technique in oil pastel that builds on their motor skills of coloring while moving them toward elevated artwork techniques and amazing results. The benefit of oil pastels is that the result can be amazingly beautiful without being perfect. I developed a loose style of oil pastel while illustrating my children's book about birds. As a person who needs help appreciating imperfection, I fell in love with this style because it forced me to discover the beauty of things in my work that are not perfect. I love teaching this method to kids because it can turn out beautifully even when they have not mastered the medium. I will teach a paired down version of my illustration style. In this special seasonal class series we will draw a set of fall-themed artworks. This class will be a lovely simplified butterfly on a flower, surrounded by a bright background of their choosing. I do my artworks on black paper as a part of my developed style, but you can use what paper you have and your child will still be successful. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am a lifelong artist and more recently, the author and illustrator of an award winning children's book called Little Birder. It is a non-fiction alphabet book about birds.
I am inspired by the curiosity that comes naturally to children which I have to work diligently to cultivate as an adult. I wanted to create a beautiful resource that encourages children to be curious and observe the world around them. (Ask for information.)
The best thing about being an artist is that art can go hand in hand with just about any topic. Many of my classes will involve nature and observation. Character building skills like curiosity, observation, expressing emotions through art are just some of the skills that are incorporated into my art lessons.
I also like to help kids who are ready to begin mastering art and observation skills gain confidence in themselves through teaching methods that improve the results of their art.
I help kids realize anyone can be an artist and help improve their skills with a few “tricks.” Tricks like anatomy and proportions, seeing negative space, and recognizing underlying shapes. I love watching as kids improve drastically in just one lesson, and gain the confidence in their skill that will become the foundations of their creativity through art.
My art classes are fun, but they're best for students who are passionate about improving their art skills.
