Kids' Summer Cooking Challenge

Dianne Schindler, Ph.D.
Average rating:4.9Number of reviews:(35)
This is a 4 week cooking challenge, where aspiring young chefs will compete to create the best dish using a 'mystery' ingredient.

Class experience

Students will learn skills related to creativity (coming up with a new recipe), presentation skills (as they present their dish to the 'judges'), history (as they learn about the history of a food), and growth mindset (as they learn how to be positive competitors in a fun challenge).
I have been experimenting with new and creative recipes for over 20 years. My 12 year old daughter often cooks with me. As a big fan of food competition channels, I love creating fun challenges for young and aspiring chefs! I love coming up with new ways to get kids involved in the kitchen!
Week 1: Breakfast Cereal
Week 2: Graham Crackers
Week 3: Spaghetti or Ice Cream Cones
Week 4: Pretzels
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Kitchen safety comes first! Parents will need to supervise their learner in the kitchen - especially if a stove or oven is used. Additionally, parents will need to supervise any use of sharp knives or kitchen tools the student does not have experience with. Be sure to understand and follow food hygiene rules too. If a learner has allergies or dietary restrictions, the challenge ingredient can be substituted with a safe alternative.
