Description

Class Experience

Students will learn the difference between a rock and a mineral. The three types of rocks; igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic. They will have a lesson on the rock cycle. Learn how we use rocks and minerals every day of our lives. They will learn about the ancient forms of rock art as well as some modern art with rocks. They will learn about the four different types of fossils. Students will learn about the major force of erosion, what erosion is and how it affects the earth. Finally they will learn what a cave is, a bit about safety, spelethoems and some cool facts about caves.
As a homeschool Mom I am a believer in following learner’s passions and making learning fun. I have seen the ageless sparkle in learner’s eyes when they find an interesting rock and followed this natural curiosity for inspiration in creating this class. I have done the hours and hours of research into geology, petrology, and consulted with my expert rock collector children themselves in creating this class. In short, I dug up all the dirt on rocks and minerals and kept it fun, informative, and relevant keeping learning rich and inspiring. :)
Learners will have a choice between two fun hands on projects with each weekly lesson that will allow them to use their knowledge from the lesson and strength their understanding of the material.
A one-page handout will be supplied on the first session.
Upon completing the projects your learner will earn a certificate of becoming a Rock Hound!
No live meetings, and an estimated 2 - 4 hours per week outside of class.
