In this ongoing class students will learn general rock knowledge: how different rocks are formed, uses, the rock cycle and more! Each week will include hands on learning, sharing from your rock collection, cool facts, and games!

Class experience

US Grade 2 - 5
Do you love rocks? Do you love collecting rocks? Bring your rock collection to class and let’s dig deeper, learning more about this beautiful natural resource! Each class will be full of interesting facts, interactive games and hand-on activities. Learners will be engaged while learning, and have the opportunity to share their favourite rocks from their collection each week.

Your child will learn:
-the differences between a rock and a mineral
-the three categories and distinctions that indicate the different types of rocks: igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic
-the rock cycle
-how we use rocks and minerals
-art with rocks and fossils
-and much more!

We will have fun learning through hands-on experiments and activities. Each child-led activity and experiment is designed to use materials you already have at home and a detailed supply list will be provided in advance. Each class will start with a review and allow new learners to join the club anytime!

Kids Geology club weekly teaching topics will include:
Week of January 3- Difference Between a Rock and a Mineral
Week of January 10 - Types of Rocks; Igneous, Sedimentary and Metamorphic
Week of January 17- Types of Rocks; Igneous, Sedimentary and Metamorphic continued
Week of January 24 - The Rock Cycle
Week of January 31 - How We Use Rock and Minerals
Week of February 7 - Art with rocks
Week of February 14 - Fossils
Week of February 21 - Erosion
Week of February 28 - Caves
Week of March 7 - Fun, Games and New Facts!

My goal is that learners will be excited and look forward to learning about rocks, while marveling at the beauty of rocks all around them!
As a homeschool Mom I am a believer in following learner’s passions and making learning fun. I have seen the ageless sparkle in learner’s eyes when they find an interesting rock and followed this natural curiosity for inspiration in creating this class. I have done the hours and hours of research into geology, petrology and consulted with my expert rock collector children themselves in creating this "Kids Rock Club!" In short, we dug up all the dirt on rocks and minerals and kept it fun, informative, and relevant keeping learning rich and inspiring. :)
