Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 2
If you love to read and want to talk about the books you are reading, this is the place to be! You can choose your own books, read at your own pace, and make new friends in this book club for kids! I'm happy to help students find books they might be interested in!

Students will be given the opportunity to openly discuss the books they are reading as well as ask questions.

* Please note: most reading is done outside of class! Depending on the class, students may opt in to read short stories in class and discuss.

Class time will be for students to share and discuss what they've read during the week. You do not have to read an entire book each week to join in! *

In this class students will meet weekly and get to share about the books they are reading. Everyone will get a chance to share and ask questions if they want to. If you are shy and just want to get new suggestions for things to read you are welcome to listen or chat in!

Even though this is not an academic class, there will still be opportunities for learning and fun! We will occasionally learn terms and play games. Students will also be given an opportunity to complete a project to share with each book they finish.

This class has two sections, please enroll in the one you feel is best for your child. Kids Section (ages 7-12) ; Teen Section (13-18)

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi! My name is Kathy and I live in Southern California. I love working with students all around the World and of all different ages. I mainly teach classes that are Language Arts based (reading, writing, spelling, and grammar). I also teach about Historical figures, especially if I can tie them into Literature. I also love teaching about animals, and doing story time for the younger kids.

I have been teaching for over 15 years. I have taught in traditional school settings, charter schools, home schooled my own children, and taught online. I have a BA in English as well as a K-12 Teaching Credential. I am very passionate about helping people learn to love reading and writing. I also love to help people that need a little extra help with spelling and grammar. It makes me so proud and happy to have a student tell me how much they think they are improving or to get answers correct on something they missed before.

My approach to teaching is interactive and hands on. I want my students to learn while having fun. I ask a lot of comprehension questions, group work, pair work, and projects (depending on the class). I try to do as much of the work in class as possible so that kids can still be kids once they are done.

My background is in English but I love History and Science too (especially the experiments). It wouldn't be unusual in one of my classes to have to make something that just pops into my mind because it seems fun. I love animals, chocolate, and all things Disney!
