The students will begin by sketching and tracing out guides for the painting model. The students will also learn basic color theory and how to mix paints to achieve desired look. Students will use techniques to establish a ‘clean’ painting. The instructor may ask to see student's progress periodically through-out the class. The lesson is intended to be fun and encourage the development of a love of art. Students will need basic tubes of acrylic paints (variety of colors - white, black, blue,...
The students will understand the importance of planning their work prior to putting brush to canvas (using guidelines and light sketches on the project). The students will practice and gain mixing colors on a pallet and use of appropriate brush strokes. The students will learn about the blending of paints on the canvas. The students will practice and improve their listening skills. The student will improve their painting skill.
Acrylic paints - variety of colors but at minimum white, black, blue, yellow, green, brown, and red. Canvas (8 x 12 size or similar) Variety of brushes – small and large tips Pencil for lightly tracing out the image we will be painting. Plastic cup for water Paper towels Smock or large old shirt for getting messy! Plastic plate (plates used for cook-outs with indentations for keeping food separated work well) – this for any color mixing we made practice. Newspaper to cover table or work area **painting can get messy, so a workspace where the child can’t ruin anything is ideal.
Ms. Layla will engage the learners during class to inspect their progress and provide coaching when needed. Very informal assessment as the class progresses from step to step or introduces a new technique.
1 hour 30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
