Class experience
Brazilian Capoeira is a fun way to learn new things. The students will learn about the traditional songs and instruments that accompany Brazilian Capoeira. They will learn some basic songs as well as some basic capoeira style hand drumming techniques and rhythms. Each concept will be presented in an age appropriate fashion. The students will develop coordination, rhythm, confidence, and musicality as they learn some of the basic rhythms and songs of Brazilian Capoeira. They will also develop an appreciation for other cultures as they learn some of the history behind the art form.
I love capoeira! I have been training capoeira for almost 15 years, and it is truly my passion. My current rank is Graduado, and I practice frequently in groups and on my own. I am offering this course because I feel that capoeira develops many different areas at the same time. It has helped me to grow in strength, flexibility, confidence, musicality, language skills, communication, and culture. I believe that it will do the same for anyone else who train seriously. This class will provide a valuable introduction to the music and history as well as encourage children to develop an affinity for cultural music. It will show them that music can be fun, and it will help them grow into well-rounded individuals.
1 file available upon enrollmentThe students in this class will mostly just need their hands and their voices. :) Since this includes some beginning drumming techniques, the children are welcome to use a hand drum if available (djembe, conga, atabaque, etc.). If a drum is not available, the same basic techniques can be practiced on a substitute surface, such as a bucket, the seat of a chair, an upside down trash can, a box, etc. Feel free to get creative!
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
