Students are encouraged to practice the mindfulness skills we learn in class in their daily lives too. This doesn't need to take much time (as little as 5 minutes/day!), but is an important part of this learning experiences. They will also be occasional reflections and worksheets that go along with our lessons.Class Experience
This weekly class teaches students to take good care of their minds and bodies using kid-friendly mindfulness activities. Each class follows a similar structure with a slightly different theme each week. A typical class includes: - short yoga warm up -pebble meditation (a sitting meditation using 4 pebbles and images from nature) -mini-lesson and conversation about mindfulness -time to practice mindfulness together -sharing about our experience/questions -daily life assignment, asking students to apply what they learned in class to their life that week The class builds students skills and understanding of mindfulness through a progression of 14 weeks. From the very first class, they will experience for themselves the positive effects of mindfulness on their minds and body. By the end of the program, they will have learned several mindfulness techniques use their daily life. Weekly themes are: Week 1: Intro to Mindfulness, Intro to Pebble Meditation (please bring 4 pebbles to class) Week 2: Thoughts - Reactions Week 3: Mindful Breathing Week 4: Mindful Eating Week 5: Mindful Movement Week 6: Zooming Out (Mindful Listening) Week 7: Zooming In (Mindful Listening Part 2) Week 8: Gratitude Week 9: Still, Quiet Place Week 10: Habits Week 11: Learning from Animals Week 12: Wrap Up & Review A Little bit more about what to expect from this class: Experiential Learning Philosophy: In this class, I guide students through a series of direct experiences with mindfulness as well as some focused reflection. In this way, they increase their knowledge about mindfulness, develop skills, and clarify their values. This approach helps students really internalize what they are learning so they can apply it - to positive ends - in their lives. "Practice not perfection!" Mindfulness is a skill we will build together with practice over time. I also encourage kids to practice what we learn outside of class in their daily life. Ask them what they are learning and consider practicing with them. Quiet AND social time each class During class, we spend some time in silent meditation and some time discussing mindfulness and doing interactive activities. My main goal for this class is to provide age-appropriate, fun, mindfulness practice so students have a positive experience with mindfulness from an early age. It is great that more and more families are experiencing the many benefits of mindfulness. I would work with your child, helping them build mindfulness skills and attitudes that they can carry with them for the rest of their life. Please feel free to message me with any questions.
