Kid Chef Baking School: Let’s Bake Cupcakes

In this one-time class your little chef will learn to make vanilla cupcakes and frosting from scratch. They will mix the batter, fill the muffin pan, and learn to decorate the cupcakes. These are perfect for St. Patrick's Day, Easter, or any random day. Come experience the joy of cooking and baking.

Class Experience

Ingredients Needed (Measurements will be provided upon enrollment): • Salted Butter • Solid Vegetable Shortening (e.g., Crisco) • White Granulated Sugar • Eggs • Vanilla Extract • Milk (Recommend Whole or 2%) • Buttermilk • All Purpose White Flour • Baking Powder • Salt • Confectionary/Powdered/Icing Sugar • Food Coloring and Sprinkles (Optional) Note: I tested the recipe using just Milk instead of both Milk and Buttermilk and it still tasted great so that is also an option if you do not have Buttermilk. Miscellaneous Needed: • Muffin Pan • Cupcake Wrappers or Butter/Spray (To grease muffin pan) • 2 Large Bowls and 1 Medium Bowl • Measuring Cups and Spoons • Whisk and Spoon/Spatula (For mixing batter) • Spoon (For filling Muffin Pan) • Oven (For baking cupcakes) • 1 Quart Plastic Bag and Scissors (Optional) I will show how to use a plastic bag to pipe the frosting but a spatula or dull knife (with parental guidance) works just as well.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
50 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Prior to Class:  An adult will need to gather all the ingredients. Measuring will be done during class.

During Class:  An adult will need to bake the cupcakes in the oven.  Some students may also need assistance with measuring ingredients during class.  If you prefer you can also measure everything ahead of time and put them in separate small bowls so your child can just add the ingredients together as we go through the recipe.

Allergies:  The supply list includes all ingredients.  Please review if your child has any allergies.
