Description
Class Experience
This Kick-Start Class will get your little one reading books in no time! Online classes can be a challenge for younger students, but in my class we will participate by seeing the letters/words, spelling the letters/words, tracing/writing the letters/words, saying & hearing the letters/words. This kinesthetic approach will help them to remember the material so they can progress quickly with reading. It is Orton-Gillingham based. The class has been updated and will include weekly practice...
This class is taught in English.
In this introductory phonics class, the learner will be reading 36 short vowel words and 8 sight words. The learner will know how to say, read, and write the first 12 sounds of English. Proper hand placement and letter formation are taught with the sounds to reinforce the learning. The letters learned are: c, o, a, d, g, h, m, l, t. This class uses phonemic awareness, visual and kinesthetic cues to help the learner succeed with reading. Lesson 1: Words with hard C as in cat. Lesson 2: Short Vowel O as in octopus with Oggie Octopus. Lesson 3: Short Vowel A as in apple with Alice. Lesson 4: Words with D as in dog with Dragonfly Dan. Lesson 5: Words with hard G as in gate with Gus the goat. Lesson 6: Words with M as in moon with Meg and Martin. We will also review the first 6 lessons. Lesson 7: Words with L as in log with Little Larry. Lesson 8: Words with H as in hat with Happy Harry. Lesson 9: Words with T as in turtle with Tom the Turkey. Lesson 10: Words with Short I as in igloo with Iggie Iguana. Lesson 11: Words with hard J as in jug with Jolly Jack. Lesson 12: Words with K as in kite with Kathy Kitty. We will review all words and celebrate our success!
I have a B.A in Elementary Education with a specialization in Reading & Language Arts. I have been teaching reading for over 20 years.
I suggest 10-15 minutes daily of listening/reading and practicing the letters learned on days that the class does not meet. Attention spans are short for this age so a little every day will be more productive than one long session of reading once a week. This homework will be completed with a parent or caregiver. 10-15 minutes can be spent on the provided activities and worksheets for each letter sound. These activities are optional but will help with class retention and success.
Dry erase board or chalkboard (lap size) Dry erase pen or chalk Pencil with a pencil grip to help hold the pencil correctly. Many different kinds are available. Lined paper for letter formation.
