Kick Fit! is a fun, fitness-focused class for kids wanting to learn more about cardio kickboxing. Taught by Dr. Sonja, an AFAA and Les Mills certified instructor of Bodycombat and kickboxing (and former national trainer!), this class focuses on teaching kids the basic principles of punches, kicks, blocks, and strikes! We will begin with a warm-up and mini workshop learning the basics of technique. Then students will learn some simple patterns designed to improve coordination, strength,...
-Students will learn correct technique for basic kickboxing moves such as the jab, cross, hook, uppercut, roundhouse kick, front kick, back kick, side kick, slip, and bob-and-weave -Students will understand the target zone for every punch and strike and the correct implementation for the movement as it pertains to boxing and/or martial arts -Students will learn simple upper/lower body combinations to improve coordination and endurance -Students will burn calories, lift their heart rate, and be inspired to incorporate movement as part of a healthy lifestyle -Students will gain confidence and a sense of empowerment!

Please come to class dressed in loose, comfortable activewear and athletic footwear. Ensure you have space to move 10-12 feet in all directions. It is suggested learners use earbuds or Airpods to listen for easier movement and better audio quality.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Dr. Sonja is willing to provide feedback to parents/learners after class regarding their participation and technique
20 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
A note regarding participant safety: Please ensure all learners are prepared with flexible, loose clothing appropriate for exercise as well as athletic shoes to provide stability. Learners will need adequate space for movement without risk of knocking anything over. Avoid slippery surfaces like tile. As learners become more versed in the movements, range of motion can increase. In initial stages, it will be important to monitor kick height and avoid overstretching hamstrings and/or hip flexors. Because we are utilizing a shadow boxing technique, stretch reflex will kick in, and joints will remain protected. Please send any additional questions to me prior to class!
